A quartet of BNSF GP35's (sort of), today in Azusa, CA
Author: PasadenaSub

At around 11am today, 6/28/04, I happened to be near the tracks in Azusa, CA on the former ATSF Pasadena Sub (now under Metrolink control) when the westbound BNSF Pasadena local came through. I was pleased to see 3 ex-Santa Fe GP35's, along with pure BN-numbered GP39E #2916, leading the train. This BN unit has so far escaped BNSF renumbering, and was originally a CB&Q (Burlington) GP35, before being rebuilt. Here's a better roster shot of her on the Trainpix site:

Also right behind the power was graffito-tagged (ATSF-numbered) CE-8 caboose #999708, most likely for the long shove back to Irwindale if they switch the customer in Monrovia later today.

The entire consist was BNSF 2575, BN 2916, BNSF 2527, and BNSF 2598, photographed just east of Dalton Avenue in Azusa near MP 117. Early 2nd generation EMD power is not unusual on the Pasadena local, but since the GP35 is one of my all-time favorite EMD examples, it was certainly nice to see 4 of them today (at least externally).
