Chalk Marks on couplers
Author: jdmero

While in Nampa today, I was caught at a crossing and while watching the train go by. I spotted that on every coupler it had a chalked "J" on it. I have never seen this before what is it??? Solid block of hoppers.

I bet what you saw was the initial of the person that inspected the hopper car unit train knuckles for cracks, as it was being loaded- it is bad enough that those crazies are on top of the coal being loaded into the hopper car shoveling out samples for the labs while they are under the silo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
