May not be a lot of use for a switcher - but it'll do well on Express Rail links
Shortliner(Jack) away up here in the Highlands

Hi!

Curious, but is the old ruling that a railroad
can't buy an airline still in effect? When
Santa Fe was forced out of the passenger and
cargo airline business, it was because of
the monopoly concerns with passenger travel.
Now that they are out of the passenger business,
what's to stop them?

Didn't UP have aquire air freight with the MoPac? I seem to recall something along those lines in an INFO from the 1980's.

i belive that the anti-trust laws are still in effect barring any chance for a monopoly.

Missouri Pacific Airfreight

I did a quick little internet search and found that MP did indeed have an airfreight business. I am unsure if UP inherited the business, but I seem to recall they did.

I couldn't resist, but here is a link to a photograph of a Missouri Pacific Truck Lines truck advertising Missouri Pacific Airfreight. One of 17 transportation services. I wonder what the other services were, besides rail, truck, and air?

Only an idiot would even think about buying United Airlines. Talk about a LOSER.

This is the UP corporate jet, not a joint venture between UP and United as has been priviously reported.

Well, there is the "flying brick" theory. Put enough thrust behind anything it'll fly. I believe this was the case with a few military fighter planes, one that comes to mind I believe was the F4.
