CSX SD50 Visitor In Bay Area Yesterday
Author: espeeboy

We had a nice visitor in Oakalnd leading out the IOALBR30 yesterday. Thought it was going to go down the coastline but instead it went east through Niles and over Altmaont to take the other way down to L.A. via the central valley, Tehachapi and Cajon. Shots are at Newark and through Niles Canyon.

passing under Niles Canyon road about 100 feet from where I had that nasty poison oak incident last February. for obvious reasons this was my first time back at this specific location...

I really like that overhead shot, the scenery seems really odd in some way. I don't think I've ever seen western scenery like it actually. Great composition.

Nice shots.

I sure wish foreign power could lead UP trains on the e/w main.

Very cool shots, Ryan. Particularly the one in Niles with the light streaming into the canyon above the train. Never under-estimate the potential of a backlit photo!

Thanks for sharing,

Rich

Yup! took a chance on that one since the sun was shining down pretty hard from just over the hill in the background. but I've been really inspired by some of the known photographers and unknown young photographers pulling off non-traditional tough lighting shots lately. so I guess I'm open to trying new things. but I did misjudge the speed of the train and had the digi-shutter speed all wrong :(

Nice shot... you sure have a lot of guts standing on that narrow, busy bridge. I passed up this shot for that reason.
