Its really not much different, its still a pumpkin. The nose neads some work but lets hope the image we've seen is just a mock up. Really though squint and its just a dang pumpkin....

SOOOO - - So far we have only seen the engineer side of the locomotive scheme. What about the opposite side? When you speed-slant letters, as with billowing flags, they become directional. So on the fireman/conductor side, will the same emblem still be applied with the speed going in reverse, or will the letters be slanted the other way, as DRGW did on tenders? The old lettering was not directional, with this it will be. And how will all this look on the executive passenger car fleet? The logo looks awful...it would be good for a trucking company however.

And just how many of you think the people making millions running that railroad asked if the railfan community should be consulted before making this change?

I figured they are trying to save some money, since the older H2 logo was reflective material, and I imagine the new is not. That reflective material is quite a bit more expensive. I would think that the new logo will only be seen on new locomotives or repaints. Also, if they use this new logo on the standard locos, and not just wide nose, then they will be killing two bird with one stone, so to speak.

I would suspect that the new lettering is also reflective 3M Scotchlight. There is such a thing as black Scotchlight, and it reflects white. This is mentioned in an earlier thread about BNSF's newest BethGon Coalporter coal gondolas:

I have a hard time believing that these markings would not be Scotchlight, as the railroads love making their locomotives highly visible for both safety and publicity reasons.
