Question on track warrants
Author: ColoradoRailfan

Hello-

I have a question on the issuing of track warrants. Suppose there are two sidings, Allen and Baker. A train is going to receive a warrant to proceed (EAST) from Allen to Baker. What is the difference as far as the crew is concerned between the following two warrants.

Warrant 1:
BOX 2: Proceed from Allen to Baker on main track
BOX 8: Hold main track at last named point

Warrant 2:
BOX 2: Proceed from Allen to East Switch Baker

Thanks for any clarifications!

Both would grant the same limits of authority. Just a different way to skin the same cat.

I would say the first has more restrictive authority at Baker. And it sounds like the DS is setting up a meet close to Baker.

There is no difference between the 2 warrants, we get both of these types of warrants regularly....they accomplish the same result, only taking you down the main track to the fouling point of the siding at the eastend.....coasthogger is out!

As the others have noted, they are the same. If I remeber correctly, BNSF track warrants no longer use Box 8. I think this was done to prevent confusion of assumed limits, especially limits that identify "station" locations. Its more definitive this way...

Thanks for the replies! I seemed logically to be the same, but you can never tell for sure when it comes to "authority" these days. <g>
