Anyone know?

Still shows at City of Industry yard. Scheduled to depart at noon. However the consist it shows as being part of shows 13 Loads and 199 MTYs for 13,212 feet... so I am thinking.. it ain't all going at the same time. I should be able to update soon, when they change things in the system. Anyone have any idea why City of Industry to West Colton is listed as 6 hour running time?

Because it usually takes 6 to 12 hours to get into west colton yard.

What's the history behind 4004 after SP retired it? Where did it go after it left the SP.

I watched as the 4004 was being humped at CofI about 0100 this morning. Last I saw it was being shoved into bowl 15. They shoved it right by us as we were waiting to double over on the ramp. I hate to say it, but it looks worse up close than in the pictures. I didn't know the reporting letters to be able to run a trace to see what it was scheduled out on.-BMT

The reporting marks are SDAX 4004 (SDAX is the registered reporting marks of the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum). It will get re-numbered for SP 7304 when it is restored, the SDAX was just put on there to not conflict with anything else, and get it to Campo.

When you said you saw it being humped, are you saying it was sent down the hump rollin free, or was it being shoved down the hump to the proper track?

6088: Thanks for the reporting marks, I'll run a trace on it when I go back out, probably tomorrow. It was being shoved into the bowl in the middle of a cut of cars. I went upstairs to talk to the Crest Conductor about it but he was busier than a one armed paper hanger. CofI was a complete disaster last night when we got there around 2100. I was on the ZNPLB and had to wait almost 2 hours to shove in the yard at AL501.
I hope when it gets to Colton, they handle it with a little more care than most of the stuff they hump. I watch them let a cut of mow gons go with the tractor sitting on the top edge of the cars. I wondered what that looked like after it crashed to a stop in the bowl.-BMT

Just curious, are there any AEI readers between City of Industry and West Colton, if so, where? The trace on the loco shows an estimated departure of 10:49am today, but a scheduled departure of noon, not sure if it is really moving yet, there is no update on last AEI last site. I think it is still in the yard, the consist listed just dropped by 30 or so cars. Hmmmm SDAX 4004 is now listed as 4 from the head end, but I was told it had a "must be within last 5 from end" restriction.

I know there is an AEI reader at Sierra but I'm not sure if there's one at Marne or not. If you have access to TCS, you can run a "-IH" and either track the train, unit, cars, what have you, and also get a list of all AEI readers. I left my list of all readers at the dispatch center in San Beroo when the new Supt. cut off my job out there in 2003. Unfortunatly here at home I don't have access to TCS.-BMT

Thanks for the info BMT, but I would assume TCS is a UP system? The only access I have is the MYUPRR log in, and the info I get from there. Heck I have not even been up in the area it is now, not much west of Colton anyway. Not even sure about the territory. Still showing departure at 2:37 this afternoon.

Thanks,

How is the 4004 billed? I'm assuming BNSF to San Diego after a trip from West Colton to Barstow?

Portola to Roseville (by secret method), Roseville to Plaster City, via the UP, and Plaster City to Campo via CZRY.

Schedule has been bumped again, it is now set to depart City of Industry at 16:38 today, and arrive at Colton 22:38.

Scheduled Events:
Status Event City, State Date/Time Train ID or Road
Load Scheduled Arrival Wcolton, CA May 13 22:00 MCIWC 13
Load Scheduled Departure Wcolton, CA May 14 19:00 MWCEC 14
Load Scheduled Arrival Elcentro, CA May 15 5:00 MWCEC 14
Load Scheduled Departure Elcentro, CA May 15 11:00 LKE36 15
Load Estimated Time of Interchange Placity, CA May 15 14:02 UP I/C
Load Estimated Time of Arrival Campo, CA May 16 14:02 CZRY

CZRY tells me the LKE36 doesn't run on weekends, so they will probably bring it to CZRY on Monday, and CZRY will take it over the hill on Tuesday or Thursday, if things go as planned.

Why would SDAX renumber, wasn't this always SP 4004?

Possum.... It was just a transportation thing. We had to install AEI tags and get it in UMLER, we chose to use the reporting marks registered to the museum. When it gets restored it will be returned to SP 7304.

Well some confusing information, just a few min. ago, it said the train departed City of Industry at 10:55, but at 17:07 it passed NWalnut, so it is on it's way to West Colton!

6088: I hate to tell you this but the 4004 was set out B/O due to a cracked drawbar. I just called the crest conductor at 1800 hrs. and that was what he told me. It's at the PMT, the old GM facility just east of the yard. They should be able to put a new drawbar in it there although finding one may be a problem.-BMT

Thanks BMT for the heads up on the hold at PMT... I will have our people check on this, and see what's going on.

Thanks,

Any idea how secure that PMT location is? Is the loco likely to get messed with there?

Any info you were able to get at work would be great too.

Thanks

Re: Where's the SP 4004 now?

Well apperantly the report of a cracked drawbar was errant, it has been released from hold and scheduled to depart City of Industry on Monday at 13:30.... that's a LONG time to sit in City of Industry. I talked to UP customer service and they said the hold was for "inventory discrepancy" whatever that means.

Thanks for the info though, hopefully she will be ok there for the weekend.

Dave
