UP 3986 is in UP paint now.
Author: TexBob

SP SD70M 9811 was patched UP 3986 in 8/2000 per Don Strack's
excellent website. I was able to photograph it 2 years ago.

We shot it on 6/4 on the point of an INOLB in fresh UP paint,
with the typical lower placement of its wing decal.

very cool, nice to see that the SP SD70M repaints continue to all have their own unique nose wing "personality" compared to the 1400+ other UP 70M's

What road is the second unit in the photo? I know it isn't possible, but it almost looks like a MoPac unit.

That looks like a Helm Leasing unit in the dark blue paint -- repainted at CSX's shop using CSX's current dark blue.

It was an HLCX SD40-2 numbered 7058, I believe.
My guess: an ex BN unit.
It's in a nice navy blue, similiar to FEC blue.

SP 9811 was my favorite SD70M.

Even after it was patched it still had the "SP" on the nose.

Sad to see it go :(

I had the train out of Colton on tuesday. It was the INOLB-02 but the second unit had been taken off somewhere. I only had the 3986 and the 4130. The 3986 showed being repainted at NLR on 02/05/05. I didn't think too much about it (just another SD70m) but I was surprised it didn't have flags. The inside had been repainted (very bad masking) and the control desk was thrashed, as usual. The Blue card showed SP9811 as the previous number built in 1994. It looks nice but rides like a bucking bronco. It definitely needs new springs and shocks.-BMT
