Noticed single locomotive UP2189...an SD60, I believe...dragging somewhere between 60 - 80 cars out of the departure yard East toward Rocklin.

Somewhat unusual to me to see a single locomotive dragging 80 cars East. Wondering where it was headed...or what they were up to?

Thought maybe the departure yard might be full and they were dragging those cars out to be stored "on the main."

Thanks for any insight and kind response.

Thats what the second main is for .... parking trains that have no crew available.

Yeah, that's actually very common in there. My inlaws live in Rocklin and I drive frequently over parked trains over on Sunset Blvd. They almost always have a single SD60 there too, just idling. I would assume they add a few units before climbing the hill. :)
