UP 2300 New Switcher
Author: wildcataz9

The first of UP's new switchers just moved out of Boise Motivepower in Boise, Idaho. The number on it was 2300, had a UP shield on the side, but did not have the standard UP lettering. It did have some small red lettering, but I was not able to get a good look at it.

Idaho Northern and Pacific already switched Boise Motivepower this afternoon, so it probably will not be picked up until Monday afternoon. I'll try to get some pictures on Monday and post them that night. I believe the UP has ordered 15 of them.

9500??? Look again. Anything with a UP 9500-series number would be mostly C41-8Ws (low end) and C44-9Ws (high end). And there are no UPY units numbered that high.

Those are more Railpower hybrids, UP calls them GG20GEs (they are built on former B23-7 and B30-7 underframes and trucks), for service in Texas.

The road numbers are UPY 2300 through 2309.

Thanks for the correction. Things have a weird way of looking different driving by at 50 mph then pulling over to take a look. What does the writing on the side read?

No problem. Those galvanized steel roadside barriers do nasty things to automobiles!

The side board at the rear on each side reads:

LOW EMISSIONS DIESEL HYBRID SWITCH LOCOMOTIVE
