Western Railroad Discussion > Update On Kansas, Nebraska Gas PricesDate: 09/13/05 19:06 Update On Kansas, Nebraska Gas Prices Author: dozerman In 4 more days, I will be out in Nebraska(Grand Island area) and Kansas(Marysville Sub) burning a lot of film! I checked the projected weather forecast and it really looks good! What is the status out there on gas prices. They seem to be dropping here in eastern, PA. Average price is $2.89-$3.00.

They seem to be dropping here in eastern, PA. I reply: They're dropping in most places. Several of the Katrina-damaged refineries have started producing again; most of the pipelines are operating near full capacity again; there's a normal, seasonal reduction in demand in September and October from people going back to work (they drive less during their commutes than during vacation, so this is something we see every year); and the initial surge of panic-buying right before the Labor Day holiday has passed. Most places are 10-30 cents lower than the price that prevailed on Friday, September 2. You can check regional prices at gasbuddy.com and specifically this site within gasbuddy. http://www.nebraskagasprices.com/ BobE Date: 09/13/05 19:53 Re: Update On Kansas, Nebraska Gas Prices Author: atsfman I bought regular unleaded in Kansas City KS this evening for 2.69.
Bob Date: 09/13/05 20:16 Re: Update On Kansas, Nebraska Gas Prices Author: foamer Not dropping in Los Angeles. The news always says gas is going down, never goes down too far. I was buying gas for $0.96 a gallon back in 1997, it will never go that low again.

How true, but then again, your wages will never be that low again. I was paying $0.27 per gallon back in 1971, but I was only making $3.00 per hour. I could buy 11.1 gallons for an hours work. Now I make $32.00 per hour and today I bought gas for $2.89 per gallon. That works out to 11.1 gallons for an hours work. Back then my brand new 4 bedroom house cost $18,350 and I made $6,240 per year. It took 2.94 years of work to just make the purchse price of the house. Now a basic cracker box house (smaller) cost $250,00(+) and I make $66,560 per year so I have to work 3.76 years just to make the purchase price. In 1971, I was making 3 cents for every newspaper I delivered (I think my route had 12 papers daily...I was only 9 years old) and today I own shares in a newspaper publisher. <g> BobE > Date: 09/14/05 19:47 Re: Update On Kansas, Nebraska Gas Prices Author: kansas Down to $2.57 in Wichita.
