Santa Fe 3751!
Author: BNSF9999

Santa Fe 3751 may once again return to Fullerton Railroad Days! If the Fullerton Railway Plaza Association gets it\'s way! And if they can fork over the dough to get it there. As before it will probably be towed behind a BNSF Dash-9.

BNSF9999-Let\'s see what happens!

OFFICIALLY, this information hasn\'t been released by the SBRHS or the Fullerton Railway Plaza Association because there are still issues that are being worked out that could affect the 3751\'s attendance of Fullerton\'s Railroad Days.

Typically the SBRHS doesn\'t announce anything about a movement or operation until it is written in stone and we have all our ducks in a row. This message has unfortunately let the cat out of the bag waaaaaay early - before any contracts or checks have been signed by either party, and before all the complex problems involved in moving a steam locomotive on a class 1 railroad have been solved.

In the future, if you hear about an operation that the SBRHS is planning with the 3751, please don\'t announce the information before the OFFICIAL word has been put out. Otherwise, you are just posting a rumor that has the potential to disappoint the public, not to mention our supporters.

I am aware of what you said. That\'s why I didn\'t mention you specifically in my response, because you did say \'may\'. But, your personal assessment that the only thing holding up the show is $$$, is totally incorrect - and now your rumor is much less factual and spreading incorrect information.

Perhaps you missed my point, if you slip into our shoes for a moment can you understand the disappointment we have to field in countless emails and letters if and when your early release(rumor) goes south?

It is just a professional courtesy that we ask of all SBRHS volunteers that are working hard to make this and other events happen this year for you, we don\'t talk about it. We don\'t want to get people excited about an event before EVERYTHING is lined up and carved in stone.

I know you said \'may\', but what\'s the harm in waiting to post your unofficial announcement of an event until the information is official and factual?

I recieved my information from a reliable source in the FRPA! I never stated that it would be there for sure so my information was correct. I personally think that if somebody reads my post they understand what it means.

If it\'s there GREAT! If it\'s not too bad. Personally I dont\'t care, it\'s not goin\' to keep me attending the event! I do apoligize if someone misunderstands my post.

BNSF9999-I\'ll get over it.

I\'m not questioning the reliability of your source, I\'m asking you to walk a mile in my shoes, I\'m askiny you to see and acknowledge some validity in the SBRHS viewpoint. And to let you know that your information is not totally factual.

No apology necessary 9999, no offense taken.

"BNSF9999":

If I may put in my 2 cents: There is a saying: "Loose lips sink ships." Talking about a potential move *before* it is approved by the railroad can be a part of keeping it from happening! That is true even though you said only that the locomotive *may* be at Fullerton RR Days, *not* that it *would* be there, . This is because negotiations like these are delicate things, and a lot rides on trust. This is because the parties involved need privacy to have the freedom to talk about all kinds of possibilities which, if they were publicized, would give the wrong impression of the people and organization(s) involved in the negotiations.

The railroad needs to trust that no one is assuming that the railroad will allow any piece of equipment they do not own to move on their tracks. That is the way to keep the people who own the tracks happy. Happy railroad managers are much more likely to allow a steam locomotive to operate on their tracks than are irritated railroad managers.

I know it is difficult to keep such news all to oneself, but we all need to discipline ourselves to wait until things are offical before we publicize them.

I wish the FRPA and the SBRHS all the luck in the world in their endeavors.

Margaret (SP Fan) is right on target regarding privacy, freedom for discussion, and trust. As a steam fan, you can help improve opportunities for steam to be on the mainline by refraining from the temptation to be the first person to post a rumor about a potential movement. We all want to see steam in action. Unfortunately, this often takes a great deal of patience to bring about. We’re delighted you’re interested in the 3751, and Wild Bill will let everyone know when and if this and other events become reality.

Post away, I\'m on the board of a RR museum which operates steam, there is plenty of talk about why we can do this or can\'t do that, the board has enough trouble telling the members whats going let alone the public whom we want to charge money to see or ride behind an engine.

So........

BNSF9999, if you heard something, are not an office bearer of the society in question and haven\'t been sworn to secrecy, then post away as long as you quantify it\'s something you heard MAY happen.

I think it\'s about time the preservation movement woke up to the fact that all this stuff isn\'t exactly commercial in confidence. A lot of people will find this a painful experience but they\'ll get over it and in fact like it when they can see the long term benefit.

Aw Crimenitly already......

It is a well known, long documented, and standard railfan modus operandi to never let a rumor lay! What is the big deal? If not for rumors, there wouldn\'t be a helluva lot to post....

We ain\'t talking John Ashcroft here. Just take the rumor "leak" and the interest it buds as a compliment, that many are interested in seeing it run.

Folks need SOMETHING to look forward to in these nutty times.

Shoot, I\'d buy a plane ticket out there to see it run if it did by itself, would want to plan ahead for it. At least folks can get it on their radar.

You\'ll never be able to keep any potential move like that a secret. Chill.

Regarding Matt\'s comment, there\'s a world of difference between operating your steam locomotive on your museum property and operating a steam locomotive on a Class I railroad. The issues Margaret and other posters explained are real and must be understood, considered, and observed.

I didn\'t say where it/they operate, you\'re assuming, and incorrectly. You get told at school not to assume, but it didn\'t stop you in this case without all the info so you\'d better slow as the old people in glass houses.....
