C&TS, this is not good!
Author: Chico56

One day last week there was an incident at at Antonito.  Seems the former WP&Y diesel recently acquired by C&TS was, against advice to the contrary, spotted on the ash track at Antonito, which is on a grade, without the hand brake set or wheels being chocked.  Shortly thereafter the engine rolled away and crashed into the engine house causing damage to  steam engine 488.  This leaves C&TS with only one steam engine currently available.  Has anyone else on TO heard anything about this incident?  This, and some other stuff, begs a question, where is the FRA???

I don’t know if any of what you said is true. However, they did have to cancel their season opener train out of Antonito this past weekend. There were also photos posted on Facebook yesterday of 487 in front of the shop without its usual snow plow attached. I don’t know if that is because of the alleged incident you mentioned. Or if it’s because work was being done that necessitated its removal. I noticed in the same photo that the cylinder head covers were also off and most the side rods as well.

Believe whatever you want!  Frankly not interested in whatever someone who uses a word like "alleged" has to say without at very least signing their first name!

I said allegedly, because you claimed something to be the case but offered no proof. I don’t know what happened. You asked if anyone had anything to share.
I offered the information I knew I learned from the railroads Facebook page and Yard Limit Productions Railroad Photography’s Facebook page.

Because it is way too easy to attack or question someone while hiding behind a user/screen name!

Well "longlivethesp" and "Phill", or what ever their "handles" are, sure seem to do it all the time, and the moderates let them get away with it consistently.

I’m not attacking you. I don’t know what happened. You claimed something happened, which is why I said allegedly. Didn’t mean to offend you.

My $0.02...

Source, please.  It's a thing with me.  Thanks!

The narrow gauge discussion forum has a discussion of the collision.  In the telling on the ngdiscussion(dot)net, the 114 rolled, hit the back of the 488, and pushed it into the door of the engine house,

In that thread "crashed" might be an overly strong term for the incident.

(I WASN'T THERE, I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANY OF THE PEOPLE POSTING.  JUST GIVING ANOTHER SOURCE / STORY LINE)

Just a couple more things to say about this.  I find it quite curious that I am still the only one willing to attach a name to what they have to say, hmmm......  And no Mr. HotWater, other than your user name, I have no idea who you really are.  I have seen you post before but have never seen an actual name attached!
I was just trying to share info and thought someone else might have more details to pass along which is why I asked if anyone else had heard anything.

There are two posts about the incident, one of which contains three photos of the aftermath, on the ngdiscussion.net board.

And no, not everyone on this board knows who HotWater really is.

Reminds me of the mainstream news media. Anonymous sources, alleged, allegedly etc.
Without a source, news is meaningless.

Just think of how easy it would have been to include your source on the first post...

114 did roll away the from the ash pit track behind the the Antonito enginehouse, through the door and clobbered 488 hard enough to send it through the other door.  There appearently wasn't much in the way of damage as 488 brought the deadheaded Chama train consist over the hill to Chama a few days later.

487 has been getting its right cylinder bored and sleeved after it lost the piston rod key from the right crosshead, putting the piston through the front head, and breaking out a few chunks of the cylinder casting.  This happened last fall on 487's first trip up the hill out of Chama after getting its oil burining conversion and new piston rods.  The repair required the snow plow to be removed.
