Strasburg Snow Plow
Author: Lerro984

After record snow fall, I luckily got the call that Strasburg was going to break out the snow plow. It wasn't the dramatic scene of snow flying 30 feet in the air like you see in mid-west America but it was still enjoyable to see steam clearing the tracks. N&W 475 does the honor by pushing plow #66 in order to get the first round of snow out of the way. It will be just 36hrs until the next nor'easter will hit.

Enjoy!!!

Was is it a Nor'easter? I thought those storms came in from the Ocean?

Great photos! I was expecting more snow. Did they get spared the worst of the storm? Your photos make it appear that the snow was about even with the top of the rails, is that typical or was it just that way in the places you could get to for photos?

I thought it would of been higher too! They told me there was about 2 feet of snow but 2 days of sun and high winds did a number of the snow height. As of now, they are calling for another 12-18 inches for Tuesday Night-Wednesday.

Ah, the Strasburg Railroad with their "Strasburg" logo painted
so perfectly on their shiny steam engine...

Hello?

Looking good!

Why are they even plowing snow? I thought they only ran tourist trains in the summer?

Not hardly. SRC ran steam until New Year's Eve, and starts back up this weekend.

They also are doing a fair bit of freight business.

Strasburg FREIGHT? I thought this was a tourist railroad only? What motive power is used?

We were too, but Leaman Place is always calm; no drifts there. The storm was a Nor'easter, which had the snow blowing more parallel to the cuts than an "Alberta Clipper." Tonight's storm is a "Clipper" ... Historically, they have caused us greater headaches.

Today was spent shoving snow in the yard to make room for more ... Thankfully, NS is not interchanging tomorrow so we don't have to put that into the mix.

Pete, I finished making up your consist at 1545. I think you and your colleagues will be pleased.

ESYardmaster, I'll take your word for it. I am one of the charter participants and very much looking forward to the consist!

OK, so no one would answer the last time I asked the question so
I'll try again: Do the mixed trains (w/hopper cars) still run??

Thank you very much the reply, I always thought it would have been cool to
ride a steam powered mixed, short miles or not.
