Small Businesses hurt in Romney
Author: andersonb109

I just canceled my hotel reservation in Romney as the Lerro charter is now officially canceled. The motel owner was very accommodating but not happy as he's had multiple cancellations. He already knew the situation having spoken with the Potomac Eagle folks. Those of us who had booked accommodations for the charter are not out anything except being disappointed (unless of course a non-refundable room was booked). But the small business owners (not small people)including motels and restaurants are being hurt by this last minute decision. Sure the railroad can do as they please but its the local businesses who are being hurt by the CSX decision.

It you are that concerned about the local business, maybe you should not have cancelled you reservation and gone anyway. There will still be a train there to ride, so all is not lost.

He said he was attending the Lerro Charter, which was scheduled for 6/22-6/24. According to the WV Rails and Potomac Eagle schedules, now that the charter is canceled, there are no trains running before 6/25. There would be nothing for him to do which explains the canceled reservation.

Opps, missed that part...well never mind then.

Except the Lerro charter has not been canceled, just shortened to one day with the B&O and C&O diesels on a freight. Everyone who had signed up for the 734 charter was given a chance to attend the diesel trip at a reduced price.

I appreciate the efforts Pete has made to try and salvage something out of a bad situation that was not of his making. He has stepped up to the plate and offered refunds to those who want them and a one day diesel charter for those who are still interested.

Another well known tour operator, who shall remain nameless, would never give refunds, even when he altered a trip beyond all recognition, pointing to his "We reserve the right...etc." wording. Pete should get a lot of credit for being a stand up guy.
