Steam & Excursion > Thunder in the Black HillsDate: 06/06/11 19:49 Thunder in the Black Hills Author: CPengineer I spent a few days this week in South Dakota working on a book project on the Black Hills Central Railroad. While much of my time was devoted to research, I did spend several hours shooting 2-6-6-2T 110 between Hill City and Keystone. For those that have never visited the BHC, it's well worth a trip. This year the cars have been repainted in a smart-looking burgundy scheme (they were brown before). It's a great railroad and a great ride! - Jeff Terry
1. Climbing Tin Mill Hill, a few miles out of Hill City. Those of you that remember how the track was in the 1980s....just look at it now! 2. Downgrade at Kennedyville. 3. Overhead view from the rocks near Oblivion. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/06/11 19:50 by CPengineer. Date: 06/06/11 20:23 Re: Thunder in the Black Hills Author: Mgoldman Great shots, Jeff.
Hard to believe this was a C&S line (as I hopefully correctly recall). /Mitch Date: 06/06/11 20:32 Re: Thunder in the Black Hills Author: kklarr Great shots Jeff!
I'm still amazed to see that engine operate after seeing it in Heber for so many years when I was younger and the condition that it was in. I still haven't made it to South Dakota to see it yet. Thanks for sharing your pictures. Kerry Klarr Date: 06/06/11 20:35 Re: Thunder in the Black Hills Author: IC_2024 Mgoldman Wrote:

They used to provide T&E crews to run it, too! Date: 06/07/11 06:28 Re: Thunder in the Black Hills Author: 4-12-2 Very nice, Jeff, thanks a lot! Yes, that section above the Tin Mill crossing looks great! Have they ballasted and serviced the entire line?
John Bush Omaha Date: 06/07/11 14:54 Re: Thunder in the Black Hills Author: YG I agree with CPengineer that the Black Hills Central is worth getting to. The sound of 110 working up Tin Mill Hill alone is worth it.
We will have a chapter featuring #110 on an upcoming DVD. Steve Mitchell http://www.yardgoatimages.com Date: 06/07/11 21:21 Re: Thunder in the Black Hills Author: PennRailVideos Great shots Jeff. This place is definitely on my 'to-do' list!
