A DL&W Local in Scranton
Author: Bridge60

A local passenger run passes the DL&W Mattes Tower and heads over the Cedar Avenue bridge in this scene right out of 1955. In reality this is "recreated" DL&W F3 664 on it's first day of revenue service since restoration. Dave

Nice shot Dave. Looking forward to seeing you at the convention and hearing about your driving adventure.

Nice shot, Dave - though, funny, I think two photos from an overcast day had a more
nostalgic feel to them. Who'd have thought overcast was a good thing?

What day was the photo from?

Got any idea when they will run again?

Still looking forward to some CNJ RS-3 pics, too.

Mitch,

You're right, I think the clear day really makes the fresh paint/colors "pop". In service I'd bet these units looked this pretty for about a week. This was last Wednesday's shuttle run I believe.

Not sure when the units will run again, though there's always Railfest in September.

Nice picture. I do like it. But a couple questions.

#1 Did DL&W use F units on passenger trains?

2. Does Steamtown ever do photo freight charters? I do recall MLW 261 but that's like a long time ago. I think both the RDG and DL&W F units would look good on Photo Charters. OF course certain Alco's in Scranton do photo "freights" almost daily.

Thanks for posting.

Tom:

The knowledgeable can answer the history question, but I'm sure at some point, a freight F must have subbed on a local somewhere on the DL&W.

ALL THE TIME! NJ commuter service on Boonton branch locals and Phoebe Snow had F's until E8s took over.

Yes I rode many fan trips in the 1950's pulled by F-3's.
