Steam & Excursion > C&TS, September 21-22Date: 09/28/11 10:29 C&TS, September 21-22 Author: jbwest Pete Lerro ran two days of charters on the C&TS. Here are a few of my favorites. On Wednesday we motorcaded an afternoon train to Cumbres, spent some time on Tanglefoot curve, and then did a night shoot at Cumbres.

The one of the stock extra at Osier, showing the stock pens looking towards the buildings is a classic. Looks like you caught it on a day when the vehicles and power equipment were gone. A sure 'days of yore' photograph!!! Reminds me of this print although looking 180 degrees in reverse. NGFAN Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/28/11 13:44 by ngfan. Date: 09/28/11 14:34 Re: C&TS, September 21-22 (continued) Author: Mgoldman Rio Grande #487 was built in 1925 - how accurate a scene is that?
We saw ranchers complete with cowboy hats on the ride east but I wonder just how long such equipment was in use as seen? /Mitch Date: 09/28/11 16:32 Re: C&TS, September 21-22 (continued) Author: spdaylight Thanks for posting . . did you have to climb the hill in the first shot to get that view or was there a road close by? The shot at the water tower is timeless . . . could have been the 30's/40's/50's . . . I keep going back to it . . . well done!!
Date: 09/28/11 16:34 Re: C&TS, September 21-22 (continued) Author: ngfan I have seen historic photos of horse-drawn wagons well into the 1940's.
Growing up in the city, we had a milkman's wagon pulled by a horse to almost 1960 so this scene is plausible in my mind. NGFAN Here is an example from the DPL Collection showing a wagon in about the same time frame as the print. Call Number MCC-1848 Title Round up Creator(s) McClure, Louis Charles, 1867-1957. Summary View of cattle round-up somewhere probably in Colorado; shows three men on horseback, a large herd of cattle covering an open range, a man in a mule-drawn wagon (probably a cook with supplies), cowboys, and men men on horseback in distance heading up rear and sides of cattle drive.
