Steam & Excursion > UP 8444 photo locations needed from 1989Date: 10/20/11 14:55 UP 8444 photo locations needed from 1989 Author: railwayman69 Hello. Here are 6 photos I scanned that a friend of mine photographed of a UP 8444 steam excursion that UP ran in the Inland Northwest back in the spring of 1989. There are no locations labeled on the slide mounts, so any help with the locations and directions of the train would be appreciated. Thanks!

That was a fun trip. I was really surprised while firing up the Deschutes.

Being born in 1990 I all but missed out on this scheme.

One over the Blue Mountains (probably going to Portland OR and returning E) Looks like the N Powder shot if eastbound. The other is a trip on the Oregon Trunk, likely from Portland to Bend and return. Sometime in this time frame there was a trip or two for the Oregon Symphony. Some pix have an E unit and some dont.

The rest have the E unit and a couple of 2-door per side supply cars before the first pax car.

If I recall we took the 951 along the one trip to display at an event at Portland Union Station while we made the Bend trip with the SD60. I will have to look back in some photos we took. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY |
