More NCRY Train of Lights with F7A 918-D
Author: Evan_Werkema

I posted a video a few weeks back of the Niles Canyon Railway Train of Lights rolling downgrade through Niles Canyon:

http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,2624573

Those scenes showed the return leg of the 4:15 train out of Niles, CA, which makes its way down the canyon after dusk has settled in enough to really show off the lights. For the outbound run up the canyon, it's still a bit too bright out to show off the lights to full advantage, but the audio makes up for whatever the visual may lack. Restored WP F7A 918-D has to muscle 14 cars and an NW-2 up the grade all by itself, the throaty chant of its 567 engine and blat of its old-fangled Leslie A-200-156 cow horn echoing off the canyon walls. The attached video features 918-D and train rounding a curve east of the Farwell bridge on Dec. 11, and splitting the non-functional semaphores between Brightside and Sunol on Dec. 17. This is the low-res version.

It's hard to believe that this is the same locomotive that went up in flames on the Altamont Pass in 1981.
I never get tired of hear it pull.

And thanks to you for nursing it back to health and making sure it can pull!

Love the throaty chant and the "Blat!"

I think you picked the perfect time to shoot this, IMHO. I still want to see the train more than the lighting effects, and here, you get both.
