SP&S 700 in Montana
Author: cp1400

I was playing around with a new video editing program I installed. For my first production I have chosen a few scenes featuring SP&S 700 between Missoula and Garrison Montana from the epic Montana Rockies Daylight trip recorded October 13, 2002. Hope you like it.

Beautiful setups! Would like to have seen one with the whole train, though--that big drag gave her a good workout. Thanks for the glimpse. Kurt.

First some comments:
Absolutely wonderful shots! Well shot and well edited! I was especially impressed with the pacing shot - the best I have ever seen - no shake, no focus problems, and from a terrific angle.

And now a question:
What is the new program you are using? I have been using Pinnacle Studio for several years -- have updated and upgraded many times, but always have pretty good success with it. At the same time, I am always willing to consider switching to another program.

Wow! Your first attempt at posting a video is as good as the great photos you post on this board. Very impressive. Great locations, camera work and love the sound. Well done!

Help! Lately on some videos all I get is a black screen and 2 vertical columns next to the time line at the bottom. I try clicking on everything I can think of, but nothing works! Everyone else is saying "Great video!" or "Wonderful shots!". I'd like to watch it! Can you help???..

I wish she would return to the Treasure State and do the same run again. I would love to see that in person. Great video.

Great video!

That has to be one of the most photogenic excursions ever operated. I don't think I've ever seen so many great shots from so many different people of that trip.

When do you release the SP&S 700 in Montana DVD?!? I'm curious what video editing program you're using. Also, how'd you get the pacing shot to be so smooth?

Thanks for posting video of the week!

Don't watch it online ... download the video to watch later ... makes it much easier.

What a beautifully timed engine. And, what a bark. Great. Thanks.

I hear ya, and thanks for your help in capturing much of this trip. I still rate this trip a perfect 10 for the weather, scenery, train consist and the way the crew ran the engine. It was not surpassed until I went to the White Pass & Yukon last April for the steam rotary event.

The video program I recently installed is Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate V15.

This was just a taste of the six or so hours of tape I have from this epic trip. As I get time and I get better at the editing process look for more from this trip and others I have taped over the years.

I haven't upgraded to 15 yet (still at 14) ... but I think you will find it easy and quick to learn. It helps that the parent company, Avid, is on of the big guns in professional video editing systems.

Oh I am definitely looking forward to seeing more of this trip! Do you have any going through the tunnels up there?

Fantastic stuff though!

Great job Ken, just wondering, did you ever get a video together on our trip to China?
