Steam & Excursion > ChamaDate: 01/17/12 12:33 Chama Author: BMGrant001 My Parents who are looking for a home in Colorado and visiting family in the four corners area stopped to take pictures and some video in both Durango and Chama. I've got the Chama pictures first so thought I would post them and share with everyone. Hope you all enjoy.

He said with tongue firmly in cheek. Date: 01/17/12 16:44 Re: Chama Author: speeder3 I agree. It looks terribly cold, and boring.

There was one house that actually had rail frontage on the line that I saw... I voted for that one... but alas I lost the toss.
Date: 01/17/12 18:05 Re: Chama Author: rehunn Al Chione years ago was selling D&S frontage property starting at $39,000
with improvements. I summarily kick myself for not doing it. Date: 01/17/12 19:44 Re: Chama Author: Hermosa45 The properties we sold went from $90,000.00 to $150,000.00. That was in 1992, and those we wanted to sell did so within a few weeks. It was blind luck, but we hit the market at the right time. Today, there is one lot available, not owned by me, with an asking price of $525,000.00. These properties are all just north of Pinkerton.
Al Chione Date: 01/18/12 16:05 Re: Chama Author: rehunn Al, wasn't your base price like $39K and up for trackside?? I remember
being seriously interested. Date: 01/18/12 18:32 Re: Chama Author: Hermosa45 Price was never that low. Everything was seven and a half acres and up-underground utilities, water, natural gas, electric, cable TV etc. The cheapest one went for $90,000.00 with some extra roadwork included. Development costs were more than the purchase price for the land. Other than the $525,000.00 lot still available, the last two sold for $270,000.00 and $275,000.00, both in 2004.

Nor would they spend every available moment climbing among the abandoned mines above Silverplume listening to the whistle of the Georgetown loop steamer and bemoaning the fact that they were born (enter large number here) of decades too late... ;') |
