Steam & Excursion > PM 1225 Pulls 61 Car Freight Train

This video is of a test run PM 1225 made prior to the 2009 season. Not many people were on hand for this. 1225 pulled its aux tender, crew car, AA caboose, 58 grain cars and a Great Lakes Central Geep. The runs were made up the St. Charles branch. 1225 performed amazing. Thanks to Jeff Rayner for shooting this video and Great Lakes Central for allowing runs like this to happen when they had no obligation to.

Always nice to hear a steam engine working it's guts out just as the steam gods intended. Too bad it doesn't happen more often with large road engines. It sure would be nice to see engines like the 4449, 844, 765, 261, 3985, etc pulling a heavy double stack train out on the high iron. Give em a good work out.

Fun to see this event. Hopefully 1225 will give us another opportunity someday!

Excellent! Made my day and also made me miss my old job.

Got me wanting to pull a throttle again...audio was so good I ran it through my 1,000 watt home entertainment center. Once the neighbors went back in the house, everything was ok....

I love the audio on this video, that engine sounds great.

The Challenger pulled a 100+ double stack container train in 1990 after her conversion to oil.

How is the rebuild going ?

The camera used was a Panasonic PV GS500 mini DV cam with a Audio Technica AT-822 mic. I am always amazed of the high quality audio that is captured with this mic.

I would second that! Train Festival 2009 was a success thanks to the freight railroads allowing the historic trains to roll on their tracks. We need more friendly and supportive short lines like Great Lakes Central and Iowa Interstate (there are many more, too!), it shows that the people that run them give the extra mile. Same goes out to the steam-friendly Class I's.
