630 was making about 30mph on the slight upgrade through Oakland City this morning.

For those not familiar with the boarding site, Southern Railway built a large suite of offices alongside Terminal Station. When the station was closed in 1970 and demolished, some of the station tracks were retained for office car use. Norfolk Southern moved out of the buildings some time ago.

1: an overview from Peters Street. The two tracks on the far left are the Southern tracks from Atlanta to Macon. The third and fourth tracks are the joint A&WP / CofG tracks to East Point, where they split. The large building in the background was built on the site of Terminal Station, and the Southern offices are on the far right.

2: the event appeared to be well organized, from parking to boarding to leaving. It apppeared that 20-30 employees were involved at any one time. Timekeeping was excellent, with trips departing precisely on the hour.

3: lots of employees hung around the locomotive taking family photos.

4: it was a fairly social atmosphere up on the bridge. Adjacent to the tracks is an area now known as Castleberry Hill, which has really rejuvenated in recent years. The last steam here was probably 1986-1987, so a lot of the people living here now were interested in the event.

5: someone has put together a great little garden and space under the Peters St. bridge.
