Leaving the San Luis Valley on June 24, 2012
Author: drgw0579

While you can find both standard and narrow gauge steam in the San Luis Valley, it's hard to do so the same morning. But today, the C&TS had a special train leaving Antonito at 8AM, and we were headed home over La Veta Pass, so we felt it was going to be possible to also catch the San Luis and Rio Grande.

1. The Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad "Geology Train" at Hangman's Trestle. The original "Antonito Cars" may not be photogenic, the train is running and every seat was sold.
2. Over 64 miles away, the San Luis and Rio Grande climbs out of the valley at Sierra, also with an impressive load of passengers.
