Steam & Excursion > Newest member of the fleet

On September 29, 2012, Clover Valley Lumber #4 pulled its first trainload of passengers since 1985. Pacific Locomotive Association puts on a few special runs for its members each year and a night run under the full moon behind steam is a rare treat. What a surprise when PLA's newest addition to the steam fleet rolled into Sunol as the sun began to go down (Quincy Railroad #2 and Robert Dollar #3 are the other two operating PLA steam locomotives).

Here we see the #4 switching before heading to Sunol. WP 918 should feel right at home being towed around behind the #4. The #4 was used to retrieve the 918 from the interchange in Richmond when PLA first acquired the big diesel 30 years ago.

Congratulations to you guys for completing the restoration of Clover Valley No. 4. She sure is a handsome locomotive.

Thanks for the nice picture of the #4 switching in the yard. I managed to get a picture of the train in Sunol before boarding with the "Harvest Moon" in the sky. A beautiful night behind steam thanks to PLA.

Boy #4 looks great! Haven't been to California in about 10 years, but it looks like another trip is in order!
