http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,2914380 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?10,2887583 Prompted me to post this photo of the plaque dedicating 4449 in his memory (17 June 1984, LA Union Station). Just think, without his dedication, what might have been. Respectfully, Burlington John Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/11/12 18:00 by burlingtonjohn. John, I hope all is well with you, it's been a while. About this time of month I begin to have fond memories of those great Cajon Jct. and Cajon Pass day-after-Thanksgiving gatherings. Have fun, be safe, Bruce "Doc" Jones Sierra Madre CA Date: 11/12/12 21:06 Re: Plaque for Jack Holst in the cab of SP 4449 Author: burlingtonjohn Thanks Doc! All is well here in northeast Missouri. I was just thinking about the Turkey Meets the other days ... more to follow!

I traveled a series of bus routes from Long Beach to get to Union Station. After 4449 and train were parked, I was taking photographs of 4449, when Dick Yager hollered at me 'hey kid, you on the New Jersey?' (I was wearing a New Jersey ballcap). I replied that I was .... Yager asked if I wanted to take a look around the cab, as the engineer (Doyle) was a Navy vet. You can probably guess my answer.
Make the long story short, I was able to ride in the cab of 4449 as the train was backed out of Union Station and turned on a wye and backed into the departure track for the trip out of LA the next day .... not a bad deal if I do say so myself.
