They took the B&O to New River Junction and then to Muncie via Richmond IN.
There was concern that the curvature at Lester Road and the hill at Norwood Heights would be too stiff for the engine, so they took advantage of Chessie trackage rights out of Cinti to Hamilton. In this pre-directional running agreement, it was not uncommon to see dimensional NS trains go this way, mainly M43 from Peoria with high-and-wides behind the engines.
