C&NW 1385 in 1978
Author: TheNavigator

Thank you to a couple of recent posts which have jogged my ever-decreasing memory of a visit to the Mid-Continent Ry Museum and 1385 in September 1978. Living in SoCal, visits to this part of the country were rare for me and as it turned out this was the only time I was able to catch her under steam.

1. 1385 has uncoupled from the last excursion run of the day.

2. At the depot in North Freedom, having completed today's chores.

I'm pretty excited to hear that Sandberg's on board to do her restoration, but seeing 1385 derelict like that still is pretty sobering. She looks about the the same as she did in 2008 when I was last there after the Baraboo River flood wreaked havoc on the entire operation...would be nice to cover her up with some tarps or something.

I'm a life member of M.C., and have high hopes for the outfit, but live too far away to actively volunteer. Thanks for posting your shots and let's hope she steams again, someday.

If I COULD win the 425 million powerball, a good chunk of it would go to the 1385 rebuild
