If you're in Chattanooga, you can stay aboard the DQ. She's a great boat and well worth seeing. She's docked on the north side of the river. Just search for Delta Queen Hotel.

She should go and be back with her sister in California. She is a great delta boat and should go her natural home.

Yeah, the Delta she's named after isn't the Mississippi.

California's "love of the automobile" did her in in 1940. I don't see why she should go back there.

I had dinner on board during the AARPCO Convention. Also got a tour of the boat because one of our PV staff used to work on the Queen. Dinner was great and the tour including the engine room very interesting.

The Delta Queen and Delta King operated on overnight cruises on the Sacramento river for several years operating under the "River Lines" banner.

Yes, the Delta Queen and the Delta King were built for the Sacramento - San Francisco trade. However, they were sold in the late 1940's with the Delta Queen going to the Mississippi and Ohio river systems under the ownership of Captain Tom Greene and his Greene Line which was based at Cincinnati. Since the DQ worked these rivers for 61 years from 1947 to 2008, the majority of her history is there and she is best known for this service. She belongs just where she is and hopefully, back in service again. The good thing is that she won't be going to New Smyrna Beach, FL under the ownership of the idiot who had plans to render her permanently unoperable.

My wife and I took a three day cruise on the Delta Queen and what a great experience that was. Our voyage departed and terminated in Pittsburgh, sort of a round trip excursion. What was nice about this was traveling down the river and having people line the banks and wave to us on the ship. During the night, we were running adjacent to some rail lines and when there was a freight passing by, the train's headlights illuminated the night sky. Even though our trip took place a few years ago, I still recall what a great experience that was.

Jim--
The Delta Queen will never operate on the rivers again--EVER-- unless you can convince Congress to give her another operating exemption to override the Coast Guard.

Ken-

Agreed on Congress. However, there are efforts underway to resolve the problem and get another exemption from the SOLAS act. The boat is in very good condition.

What has it been, 4 years since she last actually operated uder her own steam? Can you imagine how many millions it would take to get her back up to operating condition? We aren't talking about some 4-8-4 that a group has years to restore. We are talking about a steamboat that the investors want making money as fast as possible.
