Snow at Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad
Author: sp5623

This morning, my son sent me this iPhone photo of their Northern Pacific F9. Sure looks a bit chilly up there. There was about 6" of snow on the ground at the MRSR shop.

Just a little to the north, Mt. Baker has seen almost 6 FEET of snow since Sunday!! Lowlands are seeing predominately rain, the slides are causing havoc on the BNSF, especially passenger service by Amtrak and Sounder Commuter trains. Hopefully the Christmas train to Leavenworth will run as scheduled this weekend. Is the 48 hour moratorium on passenger service after a slide an Amtrak rule? Or railroad rule? The many cancelations of commute trains into and out of Seattle has got to be discouraging for the passengers. (ANOTHER BUS???).

The moratorium is BNSF's rule. And a very wise one at that. Those areas simply aren't very safe for a period of time after the line is reopened.
