New Haven Pacifics in Waterbury, Connecticut
Author: choochoocharlie

More photos from Harry R. Lange and all taken in Waterbury, my hometown.

1 - NYNH&H 4-6-2 #1347 on the turntable taken on April 3rd, 1948. This photo was obviously taken from the roof of the roundhouse.
2 - #1347 again with a Southbound passenger train at the Waterbury station on December 6th, 1947.
3 - #1383 on the Waterbury roundhouse turntable. I found the two lights interesting, one on either side of the end of the turntable, so that when a locomotive is turned at night, the rails can be properly alligned before the engine starts off of the turntable. The kind of detail that one doesn't think about right away, but definitely realize that they are needed for safety. Am also thinking that not all turntables have those lights.

Mr. Lange's photos are wonderful to look at. Hopefully you will continue posting more of them.

Thank you so much for posting your Dad's work. He was an excellent photographer and must have had a good camera, maybe a 4x5.
Again thanks and Merry Christmas.

Amazing to me how clean the roundhouse area is. Great shots!

My father used the 4X5 Speed Graphic seen in the photo, which I still have and which I have used too. Very little photo shopping was used on most of the photos, so the Waterbury roundhouse grounds actually were that clean. Of course I will be posting more of his photos.

If I recall correctly, that is an I-4 Pacific. I've not seen an I-4 on the Waterbury turntable before. Again, thank you for posting these photos.

Wow I started with a second hand Speed Graphic 3,1/4 X 4, 1/4 model back in 1954.
