"The season's spinning round again, the years keep rollin' by." Harry Chapin, All My Life's a Circle 1972 Lovely shot! Cheers, Jack Date: 02/24/13 15:01 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: Ardenwood Yes that was a Dezereho charter, organized by Dave Goodheart as this on February 25, 1994.
You have a beautiful shot of what looks like an SU. Date: 02/24/13 15:52 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: nycman Haruo, you have certainly got around the world in this hobby of ours. Very nice, and it looks SO cold.
Date: 02/24/13 19:27 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: Ardenwood Hi nycman
It was in 1979 when I was going back to Japan by Trans-Siberian that I saw a green steam engine at the front end of the train on the seventh day. It was a P36(4-8-4) in regular service. But I was out of film being at the end of a long trip and had no idea film was so scarce in the USSR. So I had to go back and get a shot. Haruo Date: 02/24/13 20:20 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: oldhound Some really intersting shots, and I'm sure there are some great stories from these trips.
From somebody who was never fortunate enough to see these scenes, I appreciate te chance to share in your hard work: thanks for posting. Cheers, Karl Date: 02/25/13 03:45 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: cp1400 In 2004 there was a 10th anniversary trip with many of the 1994 participants on board. Scene here is on the Rachov line near Zimir on Feb 28, 2004.

Cheers, Karl Date: 02/25/13 15:40 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: Ardenwood My apologies to Bruce. I have never seen a Ye(2-10-0). Thank you to CP1400 for a beautiful shot in the sun. Is the 2nd engine an Em (0-10-0)?
Now I remember the station where I saw a P36 in regular service. It is Yerofei Pavlovich on page 2 of the time table, 7119 km and 7 hours from Moscow. The train #2 I was on was scheduled to stop 11:28-11:38 am (Moscow time) but the sun was about to set locally. I hurried back to my coach with a bottle of fresh goat milk (must be fresh, she said "bah' tied to a leg of the sales lady's table) and a newspaper cone of what looked like blueberries (but terribly SOUR) and waited for a long lonesome departure whistle to echo and reecho over the vast Siberian Taiga forests. The green giant on the point, however, sounded like having a stomach trouble. There was a gassy toot on an air-horn. Oh well, I still act twelve. See you in Stockton. Date: 02/27/13 15:33 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: andersonb109 Heres another one of double headed P36's from an earlier trip in 2002 with Derick Phillips using the same train.
Date: 02/28/13 12:36 Re: 19 years ago in the Ukraina Author: Ardenwood Thank you for the beautiful shot of double heading P36. What are their numbers?
My apologies. I wrote, "It is Yerofei Pavlovich on page 2 of the time table, 7119 km and 7 hours from Moscow." It should be 7 time zones from Moscow. |
