Steam & Excursion > NKP 765 Fort Wayne - Lafayette, October 26th/27th

On October 26th and 27th, restored steam locomotive no. 765 will operate a round-trip excursion between Fort Wayne and Lafayette, Indiana, retracing the route of the famous Wabash Cannonball passenger train.

Sponsored by the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society in cooperation with Norfolk Southern Corp, the excursion will feature economy and coach class seating aboard vintage passenger cars. Passengers will enjoy a day long trip behind steam locomotive no. 765, lunch and layover in downtown Lafayette along the Wabash River, on-board entertainment, and more. Visitors to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society’s Open House this weekend at 15808 Edgerton Road, New Haven will be able to tour the locomotive up close.

Tickets will go on sale at 6:00PM EST on September 1st.

Let me sign a waiver that allows me to ride in an open Dutch door and I'll get right in line for a ticket! :)

I did that from Indy to Bloomington IN and back behind NKP 587 in 1993, and after that, just riding inside the cars seems pretty dull by comparison, even if I WAS digging cinders out of my ears for two weeks. They even sold goggles at the snack bar on the train! I WILL be buying tickets for the 765 trip though.

No plans for guest whistles or guest diesels.

Next to the announcement of the excusrion itself, that's the best news I've heard all day!

If no diesels at all, why not advertise as so?

'Couse matters more to chasers then riders, but still - you would be doing nothing to cut into sales and likely add a percent.

I won't start on the idea of "chaser support" shirts.

1. Obtain several traffic cones.

2. Drive to Cliff Drive in Logansport and mark me off a parking / shooting spot.

It really doesn't matter if there is a diesel in the consist or not. In fact it doesn't matter if the dutch doors are open or not. 765 will be pulling a trip out of her home town for the first time in 20 years. You can bet for a fact that the trips will sell out fast.
