1225 Restoration Progress Update 9-26-13
Author: ngfan

Was passing through Owosso today and took a chance to see if the Steam Institute was open. Gate at the street was ajar so drove in and took a hike down to the engine-house. Preparations are underway for an upcoming FRA hydrostatic test in a few days. If all goes well steaming up and break in work should follow shortly. A few pics from today:

Top:1225 sitting inside with sun lighting her smokebox.

Middle: Inside the shop profile.

Bottom: Tarp shields the ashpan area currently being reworked.

Sweet! Looks like they're gearing up for a great Summer. Except, it's only months away
from Winter. Lot's of progress - looking forward to seeing one of my favorite engines
back to steam!

Thanks for the photo updates!

What's the heritage of their Aux tender?

Per webpage:

A former Rock Island Railroad 5000-series 4-8-4 steam locomotive tender, it was converted to an oil storage car an auxiliary water car for use behind 1225 on longer excursions. It has an approximate water capacity of 30,000 gallons.

Photo #2 does it for me. The front of every steam engine should look that good.
