Steam & Excursion > A Daylight Of A Different Wheel Arrangement-SP #2485!Date: 10/07/13 04:01 A Daylight Of A Different Wheel Arrangement-SP #2485! Author: LoggerHogger Here we see a familiar Daylight passenger train, but not the usual Daylight 4-8-4 on the point. What we have here is the San Joaquin Daylight that SP developed in 1941 to run between Oakland and Bakersfield, CA.
Power for this beautiful train were 3 streamlined P-10 Pacific's rather than the standard GS 4-8-4 locomotives used on the other SP Daylight trains. Here we see #2485 at Madera, CA on February 23, 1942 with her train of freshly built Daylight Coaches. Guy Dunscomb captured the scene. Note that #2485 already is sporting her War-time headlight and class light shields even though WW-2 is only 2 months old bu the time Guy snapped this photo. Even when headed by a 4-6-2, the Daylight was a beautiful passenger train! Martin Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 10/07/13 04:10 by LoggerHogger. John. Date: 10/07/13 08:17 Re: A Daylight Of A Different Wheel Arrangement-SP #248 Author: spdaylight Amazing photo . . . didn't realize they ran a different class Daylight engine on this run . . . . were these the only Daylights with Vanderbuilt style tenders?
Craig Date: 10/07/13 11:01 Re: A Daylight Of A Different Wheel Arrangement-SP #248 Author: Inthehole Thanks Martin. I am building a P-10 in 1" scale, and have not found any with the headlight war visors in Daylight paint. Do you have any more?

Some of the MT 4-8-2's received the daylight colors. The trains were the Hustler and the Sunbeam ; Dallas to Houston, Tx.

~ BZ Date: 10/08/13 04:54 Re: A Daylight Of A Different Wheel Arrangement-SP #248 Author: LoggerHogger BZ, you are right, the white face was on the engine on July 4, 1941 when she took out her maiden run. The face is now black as part of the war-time paint conversion.
Martin Date: 10/08/13 10:51 Re: A Daylight Of A Different Wheel Arrangement-SP #248 Author: Inthehole 3000 and 3001 were in daylight paint with no skirts, both Atlantic's.
