Had a neighbor who group up in Ely and a roommate who's Grandma lived there and with both the joke was always about the middle of nowhere. And when we went a few years ago, it really is. But it is so worth it, they have such a great collection there and it looks better than a movie set. Need to get out there again, maybe for one of the winter photo shoots.

The snow between the tracks gives a great feel of being in winter's clutches. Love that soft early morning light along the flanks of the engine.

That is the reason the "Safety First" sign is not present. I so much love the NN that I have attended the last four events.

Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA Date: 10/24/13 15:02 Re: Early Morning at East Ely Author: agentatascadero Did a little research....in 1910 Ely had 2,000+ residents, whereas Reno had 21,000+ residents. I don't think any of the early boomtowns were any larger than Reno in 1910. By the way, the hotel was the tallest building in Nevada until 1941. AA
Stanford White Carmel Valley, CA Date: 10/24/13 17:59 Re: Early Morning at East Ely Author: Auburn_Ed And the Hotel Nevada was built 'fireproof'. It really is an interesting place to stay and they have the BEST FOOD in that part of Nevada. Less expensive than most, though be careful taking a shower (they warn you). Water temperature fluctuates wildly.
