700 in Vancouver WA 12/21/2013
Author: asheldrake

Since the PRPA folk are busy following three weekends of Holiday Express, I will post information from the Columbian
newspaper that says that Santa will arrive near the Vancouver Amtrak station at 11 am this Saturday. The public
event runs 11 to 1. A collection for the local Toys for Tots is being held. A GE 4400 diesel will also be on
display.
Locomotive staff tell me they are scheduled to leave the Oregon Rail Heritage Center on Friday noonish.....coming
back Saturday following the event.
Thanks to BNSF for again doing this nice public event!

The OPR crew will be using the PTC SW-1 #100 Thursday am (tomorrow 0900 hrs) to pull the 700 out of the Heritage Center for steam up. Once that is accomplished we will make up the train for the move on Friday. Around 1500 hrs we will shove the 700 back into the building for the night and I'm assuming we will pull it back out Friday am and attach the train for the trip to Vancouver.

Thank you, Dick, for all of your help, and all of the support you have provided to PRPA and ORHF over the years, including this year's Holiday Express!!!!!We truly appreciate it!

We are looking forward to bringin Holiday Cheer to BNSF and its employees, as well as the citizens of Vancouver, and anyone who comes by Vancouver Yard on Saturday to see us!

It looks like it's raining in Portland, but you can make out the 700 steaming on the OHSU Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail BridgeCam:

The steaming engine is in the far right center of the frame.

And the orange spot to the left of the 700 is the PTC 100 SW-1 resting from three weekends of faithful switching service. We just shut her down from assembling the 700's train for its trip to Vancouver later this morning.

Is the engine going to back tender first to Vancouver or will it be directed from the end observation car?

Backing to Vancouver pulling the train. Once in Vancouver, the auxiliary tender will be turned so it is facing the correct direction.

Don't know for sure but assume it will be done on the turntable @ 39th Street
