Steam & Excursion > UP 8444, Ogden, Sep 1962Date: 04/15/14 18:05 UP 8444, Ogden, Sep 1962 Author: donstrack Here's a nice photo by Dave England of newly renumbered UP 8444 in September 1962, about to leave Ogden eastbound for Cheyenne on a special for Pacific Railroad Society.
UP 844 was renumbered to UP 8444 in June 1962 to avoid a newly delivered GP30 diesel. It outlasted the diesel and was renumbered back to UP 844 in June 1989, 27 years later. It was painted two-tone gray at the time, having been repainted in September 1987, and repainted back to basic black in 1996. I have photos of it in two-tone gray, but maybe (just for variety) someone can post their photos. Don Strack Date: 04/15/14 21:28 Re: UP 8444, Ogden, Sep 1962 Author: DRGWMark Fine shot!
Seeing this was 1962, I assume this was one of 8444's first runs under that number? Keep on steamin'! Mark H. Posted from iPhone Date: 04/15/14 23:28 Re: UP 8444, Ogden, Sep 1962 Author: NWClassJ Great photo, and still quite young.

On the trip east to Cheyenne, we ran into a number of Diesel 800s... Not sure if we saw the 'new' UP 844 or not.
