UP 4014 Returns Home to Ogden
Author: GrandeGold

The UP 4014 moved closer to its ultimate destination of Cheyenne today, having traversed the 35 mile distance from Salt Lake City to Ogden.

1. The crew performs an air test for the PSCOG2 04 to depart the Rose Park Spur in Salt Lake City.

2. On the move, the 4014 departs Salt Lake City on Main 3 at North Yard. For the history buffs, this track is Rio Grande's mainline to Ogden.

3. At Woods Cross, the 4014 rolls east by Holly Refining Co. at 4th North.

Second that motion!! Excellent images as always, James. I regret that I will be traveling on business without a practical means to view them until I return home on Thursday. Then, it will be a top priority. Very much looking forward to the coverage in "your" home territory as the 4014 starts rolling in "its" historic home territory.

We gotta all be still pinching ourselves that this is really happening. I know that I am. Wow.

Question...Why were 4014's engineer-side-only eccentric rods removed?

The trip looks like it is moving along smoothly.
Well done.
There should be 'joy in mudville' (Cheyenne) later this week! :^)

Because the Engineer's side has the valve oil mechanical lubricators for steam oil, and with the pistons removed, there is no requirement for valve oil. The Fireman's side mechanical lubricators however, supply machine oil, which is definitely required for all the moving machinery components.
