7470 Photo Special
Author: DLTBerkshire

On May 31st, 2014, The Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts had sponsored a photographers special on The Conway Scenic Railroad using their steam locomotive Canadian National 7470. The reason why the 0-6-0 was running this special because it's a way of saying goodbye to 7470 because she is scheduled to go down for her FRA 15 year rebuild next month. Throughout the day, 7470 ran many photo runbys on different routes to Conway, Redstone & Notchland. But by the time we reached Bartlett, 7470 has developed a hot bearing problem on one of her driver axles, so they decided to cut it off the train & was left behind while we pulled back by diesel back to North Conway. But 7470 was able to run back to North Conway on its own after the bearing had cooled down. But the trip was very successful. Here are the first 3 photo runbys on the route to Conway on former Boston & Maine trackage, two at Moat Brook Trestle at different angles & one near a county road crossing about 100 yards south of the trestle.

Here are some more runby action on part the Maine Central's Mountain Division the railroad operates on. 1 of the 2 runbys at Notchland & the last runby of the day at Bartlett station when 7470's bearing troubles were beginning. So it was a slow speed runby.
