Steam that will not rise...

The 1218 from various trips in the Cincinnati area. The first shot is southbound at Glendale, OH. The rest of the shots are along the Peavine between Cincinnati and Portsmouth, OH. This engine now, unfortunately, has much in common with certain unnamed locomotives in Cheyenne, WY.

Unfortunately, along with the engine, the Peavine is out of service for the most part.

These pictures have everything, weeds and wires. All she needs is a couple American flags for perfection.

I hope we all love the American Flag. But it or any other flag does not belong on steam locomotives. I don't' see it done in any other countries, with I'm sure some rare exceptions...so why here? Your photos look great without them. Much more like the train would have looked back in the days when steam was in regular use.

Because everybody has to try and prove that they are more patriotic than you are.

We used to run white flags. After all we were an extra movement. Regulation size flags that is.

Great photos of such an amazing machine in action. Never say never. I hope 1218 sees a boiler full of steam again someday.

Ahhhh the 1218, last of the A's. She was a beast and someday I feel will come back...it was always a thrill to see her alive.

I hope so. I mean, if VMT gets their shop and the 611 project is sustainable, it makes sense they'd ultimately want to get 1218 back under steam. Say, perhaps before 611 is due for her next 15 year inspection? 2029 or so?

When the 611 project proves itself and it will, what would you say to having not only 1218 back in steam, but maybe 2156 also and before 2019?

I can't even comprehend a "Y" being in steam again, let alone all 3....oooh what a time that would be.

Imagine 2156 leading 1218 up the Blue Ridge on a long string of coal loads while 611 drifts downgrade with the NS OCS?

Man, what a sight that would be. And, if there's anything I've learned over the past couple years if we should never reeeeeally say never. :)

Actually, it was the other way around. The Class A was the road engine, and the headend helper was the Y Class. Eastbound out of Roanoke, there was also a Y Class helper on the rearend.

The 611 operational again is a dream come true...it's gonna take me back to the 80's & 90's again and allow my 2 boys to experience the "J". I actually would love to hear the 611 working E/B out of Roanoke...she has some great stack talk when she's digging in. Now if "someday" it became possible to get the 1218 back in steam...ohhhh boy. The 2156 IF that ever became possible would be the icing on the cake. Now having the 1218 and the 2156 taking a string out of Roanoke?....Good gravy call the doctor..I'll be in need of oxygen! I am going to be in heaven just seeing the 2156 back in Roanoke after the exchange takes place...IMHO where she belongs. I know others will disagree with that but hey I can dream.
