The LK&P "Sugar Can Train"
Author: ATSF_SDF40-2

As news spreads of this little railways rapidly approaching closure,I thought I would share photos I took of the line a little over two weeks ago. In the first photo we see engine 5 who can only look on at both the Lahaina Station and the multiple visits it was receiving from the "Myrtle" 2-4-0. The second Photo shows the Myrtle approaching the station at the other end of the line on a rainy Maui morning. Although sad to see this railroad go, it had two things not going for it. The first was the rather poor condition of its track and rolling stock. Rails were full of cracks and the majority of the ties were buried. The inside of the cars was also quite grubby. This railroad was also only open on weekdays and closed on weekends, kinda strange for a tourist railroad. One of the Trains I rode had only eight passengers on board.
Thanks for looking,
Nick

Disappointing news. I'm very grateful that I had the opportunity in late May to ride behind the Anaka. The photo shows the 2-4-0 on the Lahaina turntable. Sad.

No. 5 is the other engine that was at Travel Town in Los Angeles. I posted a photo of it there on the earlier LK&P thread on the steam board.

As I said on the original post, I am glad I rode it in '08. It was clean. I talked to the engineer and was told they used used motor oil for fuel.
