Cotton Belt #819 happenings (fund drive)
Author: Mgoldman

Rumors of my demise have been greatly
exaggerated.

Seems the group is in need of an ultra
sound machine. (Why not rent /lease
or borrow such equipment?)

Popcorn Post>>>>> UP works a deal. Says it's easier to get 819 running than 844.

It's not a UP engine...

As long as dear leader isn't allowed within 2,000
miles of it, maybe so! in 819's current condition,
it would fit very well in the UP steam fleet.

This could be an expeditious way to get a UP locomotive (related by "marriage") to represent the railroad. I know that 4449 is in Portland but I have no clue what the relationship is between all the players involved and personal relationships are the key in making difficult things happen.

Is this for real? 819 isn't that far from Fort Worth! She is an exciting one. I can't wait to tell my dad.

Ultrasonic Thickness Testers range from about $250.00 to $3,500.00, depending upon how fancy you want it to be. For a group with only one engine the unit will probably only see use Annually after the 1472, and in my experience a $300.00 unit does the job just fine, but I can understand where a group would have issues covering that.

I believe work on #819 has been on going for years,
albeit a very slow pace. Slow, but maybe faster
then work at the New Hope and Ivyland with it's
4-8-4 #3028 NdeM steam engine.

Not as fast as Steamtown's 0-6-0 Baldwin #26.

As for the ultra sound machine - why not just
borrow from another group?? It's not like any
one who has one uses it daily.

I agree with Mitch...why not just do some sort of "quid pro quo" with another organization? Borrow the machine for another group in exchange for some other favor?

Sorry for "bumping" this, I was just notified of this. I am apart of the restoration group for Project 819, We are always open to suggestions, especially if you donate. We consider you one of the crew/family. But what we don't take is rude messages and demands and you not even tip your waiter.... I am not sure where these rumors come from. UP wanted us to run with them with the UP 3985. They never uninvited us. If it changes we still have at least 8 other options on running the 819. If its on what I call "foamer websites" and its about 819 I can tell you this, its false made up by some people who do not want to see the 819 run because they was kicked out of the group in the 90s for stealing and disinformation, or they believe there is a switch that was taken out.. Switch is there and is used by Union Pacific "almost daily" for their MoW Equipment or whenever we interchange. The rumor about UP not allowing us to run, is completely false. The group has a great relationship with Union Pacific and has helped when we have called for their help. If you have any questions please do not be afraid to send me a PM.

Thank you. :-)

Well after your group had a hissy fit about it and
insulted all the UP people involved at the time,
it would be better stated that you uninvited yourselves.

SP shut you guys down in 1993, remember? UP
has had a policy since the 1960s that no outside
group can run excursions on their railroad.

You might be able to run on UP under
BNSF trackage rights, but not as long as there is
anyone left at either railroad that had to deal with
your group in the '90s.
