Narrow Gauge Steam in the SF Bay Area Labor Day Weekend
Author: yvrr

The Society for the Preservation of Carter Railroad Resources (SPCRR) will be hosting two narrow gauge steam engines at the Ardenwood Regional Park in Fremont, CA over the upcoming three-day Labor Day weekend, August 30th to September 1st. The Antelope & Western #1 was built by H. K. Porter, Inc. in 1889 while the other steam engine, Cortez Mining Co #1, was built by the same company in 1890. Trains will run from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. There will also be extra-fare speeder rides to the group’s new Car Barn where a number of Carter Brothers railroad cars which are awaiting restoration can be viewed. More information is available at http://www.spcrr.org/ and click on Railfair 2014 on the right side of the screen.

We went down to Ardenwood to see the steam engines last year with my twin boys (then 8 months old.) It was their first steam train ride! Ardenwood has a lot of fun activities for families. It is worth going down there to see these brautiful little engines run, and its worth taking the family to see everything at Ardenwood. If we we weren't out of town this year, we'd be going back for it this year.
