With Fall Upon Us, Look What Is Just Around The Corner!
Author: LoggerHogger

That's right, winter is coming! This photo of Southern Pacific #4330 at Crescent Lake, Oregon in 1946 shows just what is in store for the railroads in the West in just a couple months.

This big Mountain type 4-8-2 is being pelted with all that winter has to throw at her before she departs Crescent Lake to head up "The Hill" on her way to Eugene, Oregon. She has been added as a helper and will soon be climbing up to Cascade Summit at an elevation of 4,840' where she knows even more of winter's fury will be waiting for her.

Her crew is grabbing their gloves and grips as they get ready to board her for a long day of winter railroading.

We in Oregon can only hope for a winter like that. Another dry year seems more likely.
