A Visit To the Denver Scrap Yard Reveals This Beauty!
Author: LoggerHogger

In March 1948 the intrepid photographer who took this photo has ventured into the Morris Brothers Scrap yard in Denver, Colorado to see what they have in "inventory". Off to one side of the yard this is what he found!

Just 3 years earlier, the Colorado & Southern had abandoned for all time their narrow gauge system in Colorado. This left several engines surplus including a trio of narrow gauge 2-8-0's. One of those engines was C&S #75 as shown here. She still sports her "bear trap" spark arrestor that the line was famous for.

All in all she is still in good shape after several years in the scrap yard. In just a few weeks she would be sold and shipped to a new owner in Peru, where she would serve out her days.

And, behind her is the 74, which would be sold to the Rio Grande Southern, to be preserved in Boulder, CO and eventually end up at the Colorado RR Museum.
