Not A Good Way To Start The Day-Splitting A Switch!
Author: LoggerHogger

All railroaders have to deal with the constant threat of derailment. This was especially true for logging railroads such as The Pacific Lumber Company of Scotia, California.

The photographer here noted that #35 and her train split a switch as they were backing down for water at the tank we see in the background. This mistake put the 90-ton Baldwin Mike and at least her first car solidly on the ground. A quick-thinking crew has propped up the engine with a timber to keep her from rolling over even further in the soft rain-soaked ground.

All I can say is that this must have been quite a ride for the conductor in the doghouse on the tender!

Probably needed a good washing down in the cab and a laundry run.
