B&A #61 switching in West Springfield Massachusetts as I sit on a bench watching the operation. Then My Father Harry R. Langes painting of that scene from his photograph. Taken in the late 1940s.

Great photo...but can you imagine a mother or railroad letting a kid sit so close to the tracks today? These were the days of self responsibility...NOT the government looking out for you.

Take another look at the photo....the kid is sitting on.....what is that?.....a bench, just outside.....what IS that?......a railroad building. Both structures were built by the railroad, and were definitely meant to be used. That photo totally contradicts the message of your post. AA
