Never Say Never
Author: jmw

Due to recent mechanical issues with some of the Grand Canyon Railway's diesel fleet and Polar Express season being in full swing it was necessary to resurrect one of the three Alco's that have been in long term storage in Williams, AZ.

The #6776 was pulled into the Shop yesterday (picture #2)and today was moving under its own power. The Alco will be used as a trailing unit if needed. There is a good chance it won't leave the Shop but it's ready to go in case another loco goes down.

I never thought I'd see any of these three units running again on the GCR.

Classy looking units! Wish they'd run em on a regular basis. That older GCR paint scheme always looked better than the current.

Those are still good looking power. Glad they will be operating on the Grand Canyon RR again.

When is the last time the Grand Canyon RR used these? On a family vacation to the Southwest in 2005, I was able to get video of these in service, but had no idea they weren't in general service anymore.

They were in service at least until Dec 2008. The #6776 was fired up three years ago for a prospective buyer.

I agree with the sentiment that this scheme looks better than the current one.

Is steam going to run on the front end?

A Polar Express without a steam loco? That's like Florida without sunshine...

Steam is only used a couple times a year for "special occasions" these days.

Isn't the Polar Express a special occasion!?
